First here are some more verses from The Ashtavakra Gita.
Everyday before I meditate, I read a few lines for the great
masters to help lift the mind out of the limitations that seem
to be caused by the world and onto the glourious and boundless
nature of reality.

That's why in our ebook, "Making Your WisdomCome
Alive"

we discovered in over 20 years of meditation. To find out

The Boundless Ocean

1. I am the boundless ocean.

This way and that,
The wind, blowing where it will,
Drives the ship of the world.

But I am not shaken.

2. I am the unbounded deep
In whom the waves of all the worlds
Naturally rise and fall.

But I do not rise or fall.

3. I am the infinite deep
In whom all the worlds
Appear to rise.
Beyond all form,
Forever still.
Even so am I.

4. I am not in the world.
The world is not in me.

I am pure.
I am unbounded.
Free from attachment,
Free from desire,
Still.
Even so am I.

O how wonderful!
I am awareness itself,
No less.
The world is a magic show!

But in me
There is nothing to embrace,
And nothing to turn away.

The Heart Of Awareness
A Translation of the
Ashtavakra Gita

Translated by Tomas Byrom

The Secret of The Boundless Ocean

This is a beautiful translation of the Ashtavakra Gita.
One of my favorite chapters is "The Boundless Ocean."
This chapter has images of motion such as "The wind,
blowing where it will, drives the ship of the world,"
and "In whom the waves of all the worlds Naturally
rise and fall."

It also has images of stillness such as "But I am not
shaken," and "I am the unbounded deep."

"But how can I not be shaken", you might be thinking.
You already know that this "I" is not just the "I" of
Ashtavakra or some other person. This "I" is you.

"The wind, blowing where it will, drives the ship of the
world". Sometimes you find fortune, sometimes misfortune,
sometimes love, sometimes hate, sometimes wellness and
sometimes sickness. This is true of all of the other opposites
that seem to make up human life. "But I am not shaken".

However, I can hear your doubt; "I feel better when things are
going well and when the wind changes and things go wrong and
I start to experience misfortune then I feel bad, so how can I be
deeper then these changes?

First of all, I can assure you of this, you cannot give up your
striving for happiness. You can never say, "I am so happy being
miserable. Ah yes, I am so miserable I feel right at home." So
the question becomes: is there a happiness and peace that's so
deep that no matter what happens, it cannot be shaken?

In order to investigate this, you have to discover the place where
you actually experience happiness and in this way get to the source.
If your experience of happiness is connected in any way to the events
occurring in the world, then as the wind blows the world, so your
happiness will seem to come and go.

If you investigate, and find the source of happiness, you will be in
for a pleasant surprise. You will find an ocean of joy that's so
deep that no matter how the waves toss and turn on the surface, you
will remain still and at peace. This depth that you discover is yourself
and not an experience that comes and goes. It is that which you
feel intuitively as remaining constant, even when the winds of the
world seem to toss you about.

Your Self-Nature is so deep that it is even free from the rising and
falling of the worlds. That is a way of saying free from death itself.
That is because when you are born, by your own direct experience,
the world seems to come into existence, and when you die the world
seems to go like it never existed at all. And yet at this depth we remain
at home and at peace. This is why at our very core, in the depth of our
heart we feel as if we will never die.

For more on this see "Making Your Wisdom Come Alive".

to cause suffering - allowing you to get to the core of your
existence, which is the source of infinite Consciousness and
Bliss.

So don't delay your happiness and freedom. Get to the core of

Start-up executive passes tough test of
character: Finally, a positive news article:

I also like to include in this newsletter a story of human interest.
This month I got it from "The San Jose Mercury News", business
section.

Scott Martin is the Chief executive of Determine Software. Martin,
45, was surprised when he started feeling fatigued. He went for a
checkup, and in February 2002 was diagnosed with leukemia. Doctors
gave him a 14 percent chance to survive.

This is a good reason to not put off meditation. You never know how
long this life will last.

Meanwhile, his San Francisco start-up, which sells enterprise software
for contract management, was in a crucial phase of build out. It had four
major customers and needed more venture capital to expand.

But Martin stayed focused. He worked his laptop and phones from his
hospital bed as he received treatment. The company stayed on track,
signing up what would be 10 more Fortune 500 companies by the
end of the year.

He hired a chief financial officer, whom he interviewed from the hospital,
and two other key members of his team. When he started raising capital
in September, venture capitalists saw a big risk in his health but could see
he was dealing well with the challenge.

In October, Buck French of JP Morgan Partners went to visit Martin, who
was then undergoing chemotherapy to prepare for a bonemarrow transplant.
With Martin's immune system compromised, French was forced to put on
a mask, a gown and gloves before he could negotiate terms with the sick
patient.

French says Martin's passion impressed him. Martin was willing to meet
with him even as the Stanford University Hospital nurses chided him.
Sure, health was a big concern, but on the flip side, said French: "If this
guy survives, he's a winner;" he remembered thinking at the time. "This
is the type of person you want to invest in."

French joined with existing investors and they all chipped in a total of $12.25
million. Around that time, the company was renamed Determine Software.

Martin's health has continued to improve. He has emerged from the hospital in
full remission, and has already this year posted 100,000 airline miles visiting
customers.

The lesson? Martin says he can identify with cyclist Lance Armstrong, who
wrote in his biography that he was glad he got cancer - it made him a better
person and stronger cyclist. Martin says he too had been dogged by a major
weakness: an inability to delegate responsibility. His sickness changed all
that. "Looking back, all the lessons were positive," he said. He couldn't have
done it without his team of about 40 employees.

Our lesson from this is to live and meditate with passion and focus as if today was
your last day. With that kind of energy you can easily throw off your apparent
limitations, seek and then find the Wisdom of the ages. This Wisdom will save your
life too.

In this seeking you are not creating something new but find that which was
always there, your own Self-Nature. You are merging back into infinity so
that you can stand right where you belong.
